Welcome to the Common Sense Constitution web site.

Let me state right at the outset that I am not a lawyer or Constitutional expert… but I do have a reasonable command and understanding of the English language and have a modicum of common sense.

This website is about the Constitution of the United States of America.  It especially addresses the rights of citizens and what the government of the USA can and cannot do to and for its citizens based on the framework of that Constitution.

The mission of this blog is to offer a lay perspective and common sense interpretation of the Constitution of the United States of America to get the reader to do some critical thinking about the government (and society) of the USA.  I hope that what is offered in these pages will get readers to realize citizens are the ultimate power and authority in the USA (or any geopolitical unit, really) and they are responsible for their own lives and the government with which they live.  I further hope that you, dear reader, will come to agree with the premise that 80% to 90% of what the American federal government does is unconstitutional and prohibited – or at least not sanctioned – and that what functions ARE permitted by government should be carried out by the States.

The principle of Occam’s razor states that, given a set of facts, among several competing solutions to a problem, the simplest, the one with the fewest assumptions, is more likely to be correct than any more complex explanations.   I propose that we analyze the Constitution with the simplest, common sense interpretation possible whenever possible.

And don’t take my word for it.  Read the original American Constitution yourself at several websites or get a physical copy for yourself at several locations.  One website is:  http://constitutionus.com/.  Read it and ponder what the authors, the men who risked their honor, fortunes and lives to achieve independence and create a new nation, intended to create with this amazingly simple yet powerful arrangement of words.

I encourage you to read the Constitution, then read my Power of the People and Constitution 101 articles to get started.

I also encourage you to think about what you read on this site, what you read and hear in the news and what you believe about the role of government in general and your role in your own life.

I hope you find this site informative, educational and thought provoking.

Thank you for visiting.  And please spread the word and the philosophy of this site.
